Lauren Ochotnická
Expat, Technologist, Developing AI Safety Professional
Hi and welcome. I’m an American expat living in Brno, Czech Republic with my husband and dog. I’ve been here for seven years now, immersed in the language, culture, and community.
Professionally, I have spent 17 years as a technology professional and am now working to transition into AI safety. I’m actively assessing where I can contribute most, whether to focus on research, policy and governance or some combination. In addition to AI safety, I’m also interested in other critical global challenges, such as healthcare access, wealth inequality and geopolitical power dynamics.
Given my past work in technology, I’m particularly interested in how rapidly AI is progressing and how little is being done to protect individuals from its potential harms. Even today, before we have any ASI, we have already seen that AI can harm humans, even when it’s “taught” not to. This site tracks my progress as I work to understand and contribute to solutions in AI safety and also to explore all of these topics, share interesting sources and readings, and try to make sense of what’s happening in the world.
This site also hosts my resume and recent coursework, giving people a sense of my background and what I’m capable of contributing.
When I’m not thinking about these topics or working on AI safety, you’ll find me swimming, cycling, or reading.
